About Tex & Shirley’S Family Restaurant

Let me introduce you to Tex & Shirley’S Family Restaurant, a spot in Greensboro that feels instantly familiar the moment you walk in, like the kind of place where regulars are greeted by name and first-timers are welcomed just as warmly. Located at 1617 W Friendly Ave, this family restaurant has built its reputation on simple, honest food and an atmosphere that’s relaxed without trying too hard. It’s the sort of place you suggest when everyone in the group wants something different, because the menu comfortably covers those cravings with comfort food that actually lives up to the name. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite between errands or settling in for a slower meal, the experience feels easy and unpretentious. Coffee is always part of the rhythm here, poured generously and paired naturally with plates that lean into classic flavors, while small plates make it easy to share or sample without overthinking it. I like how the offerings balance familiarity with flexibility, since vegetarian options are available without making a big deal about it, which keeps the menu approachable for everyone at the table. Service options also fit real life nicely, because you can choose to dine in and enjoy the casual family vibe, grab takeaway when time is tight, or even opt for delivery on days when staying home wins. On pleasant days, outdoor seating adds a laid-back touch that makes meals feel slower and more social. What stands out most to me is how the restaurant manages to feel consistent yet lively, a place where comfort food, friendly service, and everyday convenience come together naturally, making it easy to recommend to anyone looking for a dependable family restaurant in Greensboro that doesn’t feel generic or rushed.

The food was amazing. The service was great. My only issue was with a guy that seem to be a local… how do I know he was a local who comes in often? Well because he came in behind us storm by and said to make some damn room. Walked straight to the front of the line. Told the waitress his name and total amount of people with him which was him and his two kids. He then went straight to the bar area. The sad part is that it seemed normal to everyone. So everything the restaurant could control they did great it was super busy today which was a Sunday. It was just the one guy who kind of caused an issue. We got omelettes. The hash browns were fantastic

I can’t say enough good about this restaurant! I’ve been coming here for several years now and the service is always wonderful. The food is amazing and the environment is superb! Even when they’re very busy, they’re really good at getting you in and seated quickly and serving you as quickly as possible. I love that they bring the food out as it gets done instead of trying to wait until everyone food is ready so you get your food fresh and hot!

Didn’t meet Tex or Shirley, but we met Kyla our server who did an amazing job helping us. The hostess told us it would be a 30-40 minute wait but they were ready in 15! We got pancakes and omelets. I think the omelette was better. The pancakes were a bit dry, but I probably could used more syrup and deployed my butter in a more thorough fashion to spread the moisture around the cake. I enjoyed the jalapeño omelette flavor and sitting outside with the scenery and vibes of the parking lot. Next time we’re in the area, Tex and Shirley is on our list again.

I have been eating at Tex and Shirley's since 1973, and to say it's my favorite place to eat is an understatement! Through all the years, all the changes, and challenges, Bart Sr. and now Bart Jr. have become family, as well as Allison, Kelly, Raven, Lindsay, and it's like coming home every time we're there. The food is SO delicious, always warm, fresh, and they have the best coffee! The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and CLEAN! The staff is professional, friendly,, and dedicated to providing excellent service above and beyond. Every single time. I'm so grateful to have this amazing, family owned, business to go to, and I thank them for everything!

Had breakfast here, on a Saturday morning with my husband and we really enjoyed it! The vibe was super cozy and the staff were amazing, so friendly and attentive. The food was okay, not bad, but the whole experience made it a great morning out. Definitely a spot we’d come back to!

SO AMAZING! I loved my experience so very much! My server Kennedy was so great, she was kind, experienced and very helpful! I was deciding between the country ham and the city ham (who knew there was a difference!) and she kindly explained to me the difference and I chose the city ham! It was so so yum! The chef also was very kind! Thank you Tex and Shirley’s for a great Thursday night dinner with my friends!

First time trying this place. Interior is beautiful, great layout, you don't feel smashed in with other around you. The overall layout and outside seating and bar seating looks good and flows well with people in and out and the servers being able to move without fear of crashing into people or elbow bumping. Just a overall good build Food ⭐ The potatoes (home fries) came off sweet?? Guessing honestly the type of tater they used. ⭐ The pancakes 3 medium sized pancakes are great, tho could do without a side of butter on the plate maybe in a side cup. The ham is great not to salty not over cooked, just dang good. ⭐ The bacon 2 slices, was good not dripping grease, not too crispy, honestly just right. The sausage 2 links with the options of patties, was good, small spice nothing major. ⭐ The eggs , were great, cooked to order, and they were spot on perfect. Service The service was ok, but I shouldn't of seen the bottom of my coffee cup twice, and the checking on guest left some to be desired, it wasn't busy and mostly from what I could see being where we sat the staff seemed to gather up at the bar and linger there talking and such. ???????? The guy doing the most work was a man doing the cleaning and I'd say he needs a raise, hard working black man, we need more like him. Keep up the good work Sir. But overall this is a good place and the prices are just about right with everything else right now, do I recommend this place for breakfast and lunch.. absolutely I do. Keep this location OPEN
